Solar Hot Water Systems
This product category applies to PVRS credit RE-R1: Minimum
Energy Performance and can assist for the optional credit RE-3
Renewable Energy to achieve a higher Pearl Rating. These credits
require detailedcalculations of the renewable energy generation
potential along with drawings and schematics of the proposed solar
hot water systems.
RE-R1 Requirements
RE-R1 Minimum Energy Performance requires 50% of the total
yearly hot water energy usage (kWh) associated with hot water
generation for all the villas including staff usage to be generated
from renewable sources.
Submission Process
In order to demonstrate compliance with the credit requirements,
project teams can either use the standard submittal templates with
all supporting documentation or the EVPD Submittal Template : Solar
Hot Water Systems below.
This spreadsheet contains a complete schedule that is
automatically generated including all relevant information for
inclusion for the PW-R1 submission as follows:
If you want to use a product that is not on the EVPD, please

Villa Product Selection Pathway.
Estidama Villa Product Database - Solar Hot Water Systems
The UPC is currently working with manufacturers and distributors
to develop standard sizes of solar thermal panels for 4, 5, 6, 7,
8, 9 and 10 bedroom villas. All of the systems listed in the
Estidama Villa Product Database (EVPD) - Solar Thermal Hot Water
Systems have been deemed compliant by the UPC irrespective of their
actual contributions to the yearly hot water energy usage. Where
villas exceed 10 bedrooms, the design and development team should
contact the manufacturer directly to select the appropriate
product.
The specific detail of the design must always be completed in
conjunction with the respective manufacturer/ distributors
recommendations; however, collector sizes are not permitted to vary
under the EVPD program.
The system designs are based on the following:
-
2 people for the first bedroom and then 1 person for subsequent
bedrooms (e.g. a 4 Bedroom villa will have an occupancy of 5)
-
50 litres/person of hot water demand is required per day
-
Cold Water Inlet Temperatures: Winter 14oC / Summer 30oC
The Estidama Villa Product Database (EVPD) - Solar Thermal Hot
Water Systems provides the following information:
-
Manufacturer name
-
EVPD Reference
-
Solar Thermal Hot Water System Type
-
Manufacturer's product reference
-
Solar System Panel Area & Tank Volume
-
Standard Warranty Period
-
Expected Lead Times
-
Contact Details (including approved distributors)
Estidama has also ensured that distributors have system
schematics, layout drawings, system simulations, detailed product
data etc. for their listed products (as listed in the EVPD). For
simplicity links to the system's schematics / layout drawings
relating to the published Solar Hot Water Systems are organized in
the following table.
The links provided in the table below contain the EVPD of
the various solar hot water systems that have been deemed
"technically compliant" with the PVRS requirements:
Notes:
